Ask a grown-up to help with sign-in or an undo. Keep passwords and personal details off public pages, and leave family-only sign-in settings alone.

How to Update Your Website 🛠️

This is your guide! It shows you how to change your website whenever you want.

Your website lives inside something called GitHub. Think of GitHub like a magic notebook. Whatever you write in the notebook shows up on your real website a minute later — like magic, but it's actually just a computer copying your words!

Step 1: Find Your Notebook

Each of you has your own notebook (it's called a "repository," but you can just call it your notebook).

Click your link. That takes you to your notebook's home page.

Step 2: Open the Page You Want to Change

You'll see a list of files. A "file" is one page of your website.

• index.html = the homepage
• Other files = other pages

Click on the file you want to change. Its words will show up on the screen, but with some funny < > symbols mixed in. Don't worry about those — just leave them alone and only change the words between them.

Step 3: Turn On "Edit Mode"

Look near the top right of the page. You'll see a little pencil ✏️ icon.

Click the pencil icon.

Now you can type! The page turns into a big text box where you can click anywhere and start typing, just like a word processor.

Step 4: Make Your Change

Here's what's safe to change:

✅ Safe to change:

• Words inside <p> and </p> (that's a sentence)
• Words inside <h1>, <h2>, or <h3> (that's a big title)
• A link's words, like Kason's space →

🚫 Don't touch:

• Anything with <style> or <script> — that's the invisible stuff that makes colors and buttons work
• The < > symbols themselves — just change the words between them

Tip: If you're not sure, only change one small thing at a time. That way if something looks weird, you know exactly what caused it!

Step 5: Save Your Change (This Part Is Important!)

When you're done typing, look at the top-right corner. Click the green button that says:

"Commit changes..."

A little box will pop up. It already has a message written for you (or you can type your own, like "Changed my homepage words").

Then click the green "Commit changes" button one more time inside that box.

🎉 That's it! You just saved your change!

Step 6: Check Your Website

Wait about 30 seconds — that's how long it takes for the magic to happen.

Then open your real website:

Refresh the page (press the circle-arrow button, or hit F5). Your change should be there!

What If I Mess Something Up?

Don't panic! Nothing is ever really lost. Every single change you've ever made is saved in your notebook's history, so a grown-up can always help you go back to how it was before.

The best rule: change one small thing, save it, check the website, then do the next thing. Small steps mean small mistakes — and small mistakes are easy to fix!

Quick Cheat Sheet

1. Go to your notebook on GitHub
2. Click the file
3. Click the pencil ✏️
4. Type your change (only between the < > symbols!)
5. Click green "Commit changes..."
6. Click green "Commit changes" again in the pop-up
7. Wait 30 seconds, then check your real website
